Who’s Desire’s do You Have?

Today’s study was awesome, as some of you know I’m going through the book of Luke, love this book. I think one of the biggest things that hit me in this book so far, has been the demonstration of what the Holy Spirit does when He invades our lives. Someone who claims to be in the Spirit should look, act and think about everything in a different way than the world does!

Luke 4:14-15
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

The Holy Spirits Power:
So in the beginning  of Luke we see a couple who is visited by an angel and is told that they will have a son and that they were to name him John and that he would turn people back to God. This baby was to be holy, and while he is in his mother Elizabeth’s womb he is filled with the Holy Spirit when he comes in contact with JESUS who is also in the womb of his aunt Mary. When the boy is born he is trained in the ways of God, and the Holy Spirit’s power is evident on his life and he begins to preach about repentance and salvation through the Holy One. This message results in masses of people repenting and turning back to Christ.

We then see how Jesus when He is 30 years old is Baptized in water and immediately the Holy Spirit descends on Him. He is then led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Jesus proves that He indeed has the Holy Spirit, when even though being physically weak He defeats the devil’s temptations every time by the spoken word of God. I wrote about this the other night, that we don’t defeat the enemy through long winded prayers, but through a life of prayer and knowing the word of God through study.

So finally getting to today’s text, it says, “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee”. So even after Jesus is exhausted from fasting for 40 days, and He’s tempted the entire time He returns in the Power of the SPIRIT. I wonder how many of us professing believers can truly say that about our own lives? Could we say “For the last 40 days I have been tempted by the devil in every way, yet through the remembrance of Scripture and the Holy Spirits power I was able to overcome every single time”? Can I say that? Can you say that? This is the evidence of a person that has been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. James 1:4 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.” So the difference between Jesus situation and most of ours is that even though He was tempted by the devil, His desires were not His own, but they were His Father’s desires. My final thought on the Holy Spirit, if the same Holy Spirit is in us that was in Christ, and we are indeed NEW CREATURES, old things having passed away (Dead), should we be those that James is talking about with EVIL DESIRES? Palm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the DESIRES of your heart.” So we see in Psalms that all who delight in the Lord are given His desires. Now the question comes down to “Who do you delight in?” If Christ, then you will have His desires in you. If the world then you will be enticed and drawn away when tempted because you are still filled with your own evil desire. Ask the Lord today to change your heart and give you His desires, you have His Word on it that He will.
