What Kind of Question is That??

Side Note: I have been speaking a lot the last couple days about election and salvation, so before I head into the main text I wanted to remind everyone that God is the one who draws people to Christ not us. We are the tools that deliver the Gospel and God is the one who draws them to Christ, and as we read last night, Christ is the one who reveals the Father to whoever He chooses. Scripture: Acts 13:46, 48 ESV And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles ……. 48. And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. […]

Flabbergasted by God!

Opening Thoughts: I love spending time in the Bible, then writing my thoughts out here. Last night I joined the disciples in being “Flabbergasted by God” when I read Luke 9:43…. Yup, you heard me! One verse in which I spent about an hour dissecting. When I first started studying scripture a few years ago, I would blast through a chapter thinking that I needed to at least cover that much in order to feel like I was actually reading something. The reality wast, that most times I could hardly put two thoughts together from what I just read because there was simply to much said there. Often times our little daughter Sarah will pack her mouth so full that it is impossible for her to chew, she will then begin to spit it all out and  and then refuse to eat at all.  This is what it’s often like […]

Help My Unbelief

Luke 9

Luke 9:37-43 Opening thoughts: I have learned a lot over the past couple years. A couple years ago God showed me that I wasn’t genuinely saved and I was a slave to sin, through this dramatic encounter with God I was saved in seconds what I was trying to accomplish in human effort for 32 years. In a moment of time Jesus set me free from sin and set me on a new course, since that day all I’ve wanted to do is be with Him, lead my family and walk in the light. Through it all I have recognized that there is not a stitch of power in me whatsoever, without Him I am nothing. Living a Christian life is not something that can be taught, it’s something that takes place outside of your control….. And all it takes is this phrase “I believe, but help my unbelief”. Scripture: […]

Hide and Seek

No One Seeks God – Romans 3:9-20 New Ways: I’m not sure what your thoughts are on this, but I have observed over the past several years that the church in a general sense, has come up with some pretty slick ways of making new converts in a world filled with outward moralist’s but who are totally uninterested in the Gospel. We have studied the culture, watched the movies for good sermon analogies, identified with the music in order to draw crowds (in fact I know of several churches that open up their services to ACDC, Coldplay and Lady Gaga…. I’m not even kidding). We have become very good at making people feel comfy in a church, or should I say in our ‘campuses’, the offensive crosses have been removed and replaced with missional type slogans and globes and our social justice efforts have tripled. We strive to accommodate the […]

Who Do You Say I Am?

Who is Jesus – Luke 9:18-20 The Cost of Identifying with Christ: What is the cost to identify yourself with Jesus? To recognize Him not just as being a man but as The Christ of God. The cost is immense, it’s so unbearable that it can only be done through the power of the Holy Spirit. I heard a quote one time, “I don’t mind being a servant of Jesus Christ, I just don’t want to be treated like one.” The treatment of the followers of Jesus is hard, it’s cruel and not enjoyable in the least. In fact, if you would like to know how hard it is to profess Jesus as the Christ you should try some daily evangelism. The issue in our culture is that we have labeled any type of persecution for declaring the Gospel of Christ as the wrong approach. Let me explain, someone goes […]

Dusty Feet!

Shake The Dust Off Your Feet – Luke 9:1-6 Opening Thought: So tonight I continue my reading in Luke. I’ve finally gotten to Luke 9 and I will warn you to both brace yourself and take courage. The reason I say that is because this passage is somewhat shocking to say the least. What Jesus says between verses 1 and 6 are very controversial; however, as followers of this man ‘Jesus’ we should take heed to see how the first 12 students responded to his instructions.  Let’s see how Jesus tells us how to evangelize. Scripture: Luke 9:1-6 ESV … And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor […]

A Wedding Invitation

Mr. and Mrs. LeBlanc request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Danae Joy LeBlanc to Shane Dale Martin Saturday, the 14th of July at 1:30 in the afternoon Banquet to follow Ten years ago our wedding invitation read something like this. We recently celebrated our anniversary and it just doesn’t seem like it was that long ago that we were excitedly creating a guest list, licking stamps, sealing envelopes, and mailing out our wedding invitations hoping that many of our friends and family would be eager and able to join us for what was the most important day in our lives to that point. Last night I read Matthew 22:1-14 where Jesus tells a group of religious leaders the Parable of the Wedding Feast. After I read the passage I took a deep breath and picked up my journal and pen knowing it was going […]

The Issue of Blood.

The Woman With the Issue of Blood – Luke 8:43-48 Opening Thought: So it’s been quite some time since I last published a blog post, and now here I find myself at midnight, after spending the past 3 hours alone with my Bible, typing away to the thought of how I’m so thankful that Jesus never stops bleeding. His blood is always there and it’s available for all who call on His name in repentance. Oh how I’m thankful for that! Where I’m Reading: I have been working my way through Luke’s Gospel. It has literally been all I’ve been reading and studying for about 4 months now and I’m about ready to finish up chapter 8. Call me a slow reader but I’d like to think it’s “meditating on the words of Jesus” and “studying to show myself approved”.  I find the more time I spend with God the […]

“Daddy Save Me!”

Sometimes as I’m reading my Bible I am hit hard by a passage of Scripture that I have read what feels like a million times before, yet this time I feel like I understand it for the first time. It’s this profound revelation that strikes my heart so deeply, then I wonder if everybody else already got it and I’m just a slow learner. Either way I am grateful for God’s patience and long suffering with me as I strive to understand the mysteries of his Word and how to apply it to my life in the way he intended. I’m currently reading in the book of Matthew. I decided to read it again after I finished 1 John last Christmas because of 1 John 2:6 which says, “..whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” I knew I needed to […]

Good Tree, Bad Tree

No Good Tree Bears Bad Fruit – Luke 6:43-45 Opening Thoughts: Can you imagine seeing totally dead tree and on it’s branches was the most amazing fruit? It’s impossible. What about if you were on a journey and were desperately hungry, in front of you a ways ahead you could see an orchard filled with big green fruit trees, you were so excited to sink your teeth into some nourishing, refreshing fruit, but as you approached them you realized there was no fruit on these trees. They were barren. What a disappointment. Luke 6:43-45 “For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the […]
