God Plans

Gods Sovereignty

God doesn't just know, He Plans - Matthew 26:20-15 God only knows? Have you ever used the phrase, "God knows", in reference to a difficult or uncertain situation? I know that, for us anyway, we've said it a lot. When we've been in car accidents, or when something tragic happens to someone we know, or even if it's something minor like locking our keys in the car we have often shrugged and said, "Well, God knows. He'll take care of it." There is nothing wrong on the surface with a statement like this, it's just incomplete. Several months ago we decided to change our go to phrase from "God knows" to "God plans". Of course God knows what is going on in our lives, but it doesn't catch him off guard and it's not a mess he has to clean up. God doesn't just know, he plans, and he does it for his glory and "for the good of those who love him and who are called according to his purpose (plan)" (Romans 8:28) No one can mess God's Plans up There is much to be said about God's Sovereignty … [Read more...]

Is it God’s Will To Save Everyone?

Noah's Ark

Opening Thoughts: Clearly you read the title before clicking into this post. Just to clarify, none of us are the judge of who God has called and elected to be His children, nor can we comprehend on what grounds He does it, that's God's job and I'm glad for that. We on the other hand have been given one task, and that task is to preach the Gospel to every creature and the ones who believe will be saved, and those who don't are already condemned according to Jesus. In regard to election, I find it odd that many church folks have no issues believing the Old Testament in regard to election, when God clearly had a people called after His Name. Of course it was easy to know who His elect were, because they all had the same father 'Abraham'. We also have no issues with the fact that God destroyed the earth with a flood, destroying everyone but His chosen. About the Ark: I think many times when we envision the story of Noah we see and old man and his family building a ship with all the … [Read more...]

Once Saved, Always Saved?

Once Saved Always Saved

Opening Thoughts: When I was reading tonight's text my mind was racing through several scenes that I've seen in a few different war movies. These are scenes of victory. Some of the most victorious scenes for me come from Braveheart. I can just see the celebrations now as they come back from the battle field. Or what about in Lord of the Rings when after many grueling and relentless battle's they win the war and return rejoicing to the shire. This is kind of what we see here in Luke 10. Jesus had just sent the 72 disciples out to minister, and now they are returning very excited and doing victory dances... Scripture: Luke 10:17-20 ESV [17] The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” [18] And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. [19] Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. [20] Nevertheless, do not … [Read more...]
