I Will Follow You

Follow me_edited-1

Opening Thoughts: Tonight we wrap up Luke chapter 9. One of the common threads throughout the Gospel of Luke is Jesus emphasizing what it really means to follow Him. This very day and throughout history the church has been filled with people that are both true disciples and false disciples. What I mean by true disciples is people that God has made a commitment to, not the other way around. We humans make so many commitments that we never follow through on. In fact many times we say things to people that we never even intend to get around to. Take for instance the phrase, "We should hang out sometime". Now you likely have said that to someone or had it said to you, and you may or may not have actually intended to ever follow through with it. Or maybe you have said "I'll give you a call", can you even remember how many times you've actually said that and did not follow through. What if next time you said "I'll give you a call" the person turned to you and said "when". What would you say? … [Read more...]

Face Like a Flint

Face-Like-Flint

Opening thoughts: Okay, so I started reading tonight in Luke a continuation from last night, and right off the bat I was struck between the eyes with something really HARD .. a FLINT. If you don't know what a flint it is a type of rock that is measured at 7 out of 10 on the "Mohs scale of mineral hardness" It's very hard, therefore has been used as ancient tools, lighting gun powder etc. If you were able to wear a suit that was made entirely out of flint into battle, and still be able to move ... nothing could penetrate you. What if our faces were made of flint?? Just a thought ... This is where we transition into tonight's continued study on Luke chapter 9. Scripture: Luke 9:51-56 ESV A Samaritan Village Rejects Jesus: [51] When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. [52] And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. [53] But the people did not receive him, because his … [Read more...]

Who Do You Say I Am?

proclaim

Who is Jesus - Luke 9:18-20 Warming up: I'm starting to get on a roll. I quite enjoy writing and actually had no idea I could even do it until about 2 years ago when Danae and I felt that we should write a book. I picked up my lap top, opened up Word Documents and the Word of God, and started typing. Point is, I enjoy it and I hope there are a few people out there that actually enjoy reading it. The Overview: For those of you who have been reading my posts as I work my way through Luke you will realize that I just skipped the story of the feeding of the 5,000. To be honest, I wanted to study it but I was just pulling a blank and didn't want to just write down fluff. So I skipped it (something I rarely do when studying verse by verse). So here I am at chapter 9:18 -20. The Cost of Identifying with Christ: What is the cost to identify yourself with Jesus? To recognize Him not just as being a man but as The Christ of God. The cost is immense, it's so unbearable that it can only be … [Read more...]

Dusty Feet!

Dusty Feet, Gospel feet

Shake The Dust Off Your Feet - Luke 9:1-6 Opening Thought: So tonight I continue my reading in Luke. I've finally gotten to Luke 9 and I will warn you to both brace yourself and take courage. The reason I say that is because this passage is somewhat shocking to say the least. What Jesus says between verses 1 and 6 are very controversial; however, as followers of this man 'Jesus' we should take heed to see how the first 12 students responded to his instructions.  Let's see how Jesus tells us how to evangelize. Scripture: Luke 9:1-6 ESV ... And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, [2] and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. [3] And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. [4] And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. [5] And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off … [Read more...]
